| Welcome to Summa Health System’s Surgical Services. Summa surgeons perform more than 24,000 surgeries a year on both an inpatient and outpatient basis at our Akron City Hospital, St. Thomas Hospital, Cuyahoga Falls General Hospital and Specialty Surgery Center locations.
Summa has been providing surgery to the community since Akron City Hospital first opened its doors in 1892. Our board-certified surgeons combine years of surgical experience with technology to benefit our patients in many ways.
By taking leading-edge technology and applying it to medicine, surgeons at Summa have made critical advances in patient care. For example, over the years, Summa has moved toward more minimally invasive techniques through the Minimally Invasive Surgery Institute, added new outpatient facilities such as the Specialty Surgery Center and added new cutting edge technology and programs such as Robotic-assisted surgery, a Telemedical Center, Bariatric surgery and Bloodless surgery, to name a few, to continue to not only meet our community’s healthcare needs, but exceed them.
