3D Mammography: Our Standard for Breast Cancer Screening
All Summa Health imaging locations offer 3D mammography, which creates highly detailed X-ray images that offer greater clarity than traditional 2D mammograms. In addition to improved cancer detection, 3D mammograms often result in fewer callbacks for false positives.

When Should You Be Screened?
A mammogram can detect abnormal breast tissue that might be cancer before you even notice it during a self-exam. For females of average risk, Summa Health recommends these guidelines for mammograms:
Age 40 - Discuss when you should begin mammograms with your primary care provider or gynecologist.
Age 45 - Begin annual mammograms no later than 45 and continue as long as you are in good health.
Age 75 and older - Continue conversations about regular mammograms with your provider.
If you're over 40, you don't need a referral to schedule your next screening. Screening mammograms are covered at no cost to you by Medicare and most private insurers.

"I am at very high risk for breast cancer. My mother and my aunt both had breast cancer, and also, I have dense tissue, so these are all very high risk factors. I was so thankful to know that Summa's Center for Breast Health had all of the tests that I needed. The 3D mammography, the needle biopsy, surgical biopsies and also the breast MRI, so that we could completely screen for breast cancer. I love that Summa feels like a partner to me in my healthcare journey."
